Today I heard a doctor state the following:
Mr. Smith* has had problems with his left knee for several years now. He says a few months, and his wife says a few years. He says he is having some limitation with walking and the wife says he cannot walk at all. He says he is having some pain and she says he is having a lot of pain.
It's probably just one of those not asking for directions kind of things.
