I love Halloween. Absolutely love it! There are so many great Halloween books out there. Here are a couple of my favorites for a cozy family read-a-loud.The Best Halloween Ever
The Herdmans are back in this delightful Halloween classic by Barbara Robinson! This really is a fun story for all ages.
The Herdmans plus Halloween have always spelled disaster Every Halloween, the six Herdman kids steal candy, spray-paint other kids, and take everything that isn't nailed down. And this year promises to be the same, until the Mayor decides to up and cancel Halloween. True, that means there'd be no Herdman trouble to contend with, but that also means no candy, no costumes, and no trick-or-treating! Is it possible that the Herdmans themselves could make what looks like a horrible Halloween into the best one ever?
Perhaps my favorite of all Halloween tales is this little rather unknown gem by Jane Little, Spook. It's darling, it's heartwarming, a bit "spooky" in places (as any good Halloween story is), and I highly recommend it. Spook is out of print, but you can find used copies on Alibris for next to nothing.
Every witch needs a familiar, and Grimalda's familiar is Spook, a little black dog. All Spook wants is to live a normal dog life in a normal family, and his prayers are answered when he falls off Grimalda's broom one Halloween and lands in the arms of a little boy named Jamie. Only Jamie's love and kindness stand between Spook and Grimalda's jealous wrath!
